A new species from New Caledonia, Pterostylis longilabia M.Pignal, sp. nov. is described and illustrated. Morphological characters that distinguish the new taxon from the related species, P. ophioglossa R.Br. are essentially a lip of the same length as the median sepal, without basal extension (instead of a shorter lip with a fimbriated extension at its base) and a narrowly angled sinus between the synsepals (instead of a rounded or open-angle sinus). Due to the high threats to its locality, the proposed IUCN conservation status is EN (Endangered). An identification key is given for New Caledonian Pterostylis species in English and French.
