Taxonomical and nomenclatural novelties in the grammitid ferns (Pteridophyta, Polypodiaceae, Grammitidoideae) from Madagascar

Within the context of the revision of grammitid ferns from Madagascar, eleven new taxa (ten species and one variety) are described and illustrated: Ceradenia ivohibensis Rakotondr. & Parris, sp. nov., Ceradenia pseudodevoluta Rakotondr. & Parris, sp. nov., Ctenopterella lastii Parris & Rakotondr., sp. nov., Enterosora sinuata Rakotondr. & Parris, sp. nov., Grammitis anisophylla Rakotondr. & Parris, sp. nov., Grammitis coriaceifolia Rakotondr. & Parris, sp. nov., Grammitis dauphinensis Rakotondr. & Parris, sp. nov., Grammitis membranifolia Rakotondr. & Parris, sp. nov., Melpomene flabelliformis (Poir.) A.R. Sm. & R.C. Moran var. circumvoluta Rakotondr. & Parris, var. nov., Moranopteris madagascarica Rakotondr. & Parris, sp. nov., and Zygophlebia rouxii Rakotondr. & Parris, sp. nov. The nomenclature adopted here follows PPG1 (2016) except for the genus Grammitis, which is considered here in its broad sense: it includes all species with lamina entire to lobate, those with a sclerotic margin (= Grammitis s. str.) and those with an undifferentiated margin. The discriminating morphological characters of the eleven genera present in Madagascar are specified in the original determination key given at the beginning of the treatment. In the context of a still unsettled classification of grammitid ferns, the purpose of this key is to argue the choice of the generic classification of the new species described.

A new presumed hybrid, Zygophlebia devoluta (Baker) Parris × Ceradenia pseudodevoluta Rakotondr. & Parris, sp. nov., is also described and compared with its putative parents. Three new combinations are proposed: Ctenopterella boivinii (Mett. ex Kuhn) Rakotondr. & Parris, comb. nov., Enterosora uluguruensis (Reimers) Rakotondr. & Parris, comb. nov., and Stenogrammitis micropecten (C. Chr.) Rakotondr. & Parris, comb. nov.; Enterosora uluguruensis (Reimers) Rakotondr. & Parris, comb. nov., an African species, is recorded for the first time in Madagascar. Finally, a new synonymy is published: Ceradenia alboglandulosa (Bonap.) Parris, synonym of Ceradenia deltodon (Baker) Parris.
