Dicranum viride (Sull. et Lesq.) Lindb. has been found on the southern versant of the Pyrenees (Irati Forest, Navarra). This is the only Iberian locality of this threatened species. In this area the species was only known from Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Haute-Garonne in the French versant. Its habitat on the new locality has been studied, comparing to other places in France and Germany where the species is known to occur. In Irati, D. viride prefers the north-facing upper base - lower trunk parts of beech trees, median to large in diameter, and it is usually accompanied by Pterigynandrum filiforme and Hypnum cupressiforme var. cupressiforme. The species is proposed to be included in the Red List of Iberian Bryophytes as "Vulnerable" (VU).
