The French centipede fauna presently includes 151 species and three subspecies and an annotated ckecklist of these taxa is given. Stenotaenia sorrentina (Attems, 1903) is confirmed in France (Corsica). The specimens previously named Lithobius nodulipes Latzel, 1880 in Corsica concern in fact L. brandensis Verhoeff, 1943; the first being to delete from the French fauna. A French common name is created or confirmed for each terminal taxon, in order to facilitate communication about this group of myriapods to the wider public, while keeping in mind the need for rigor when studying this group. As of May 2022, there are 32 805 data at the species-level on the distribution of centipedes in metropolitan France (77 302 identified specimens), of which 89.3% have been made since 2000. 45.1% of the terrestrial 10 × 10 km grid squares have at least one datum of centipede species. Some new observations are made on the decline and/or the disappearance of some species.
