The naiads of Grand-Est region: state of knowledge and perspectives

The freshwater mussels of order of Unionida Gray, 1854 are considered as ecosystem engineers in freshwater ecosystems and are amongst the most imperiled world-wide fauna. In the French Grand-Est region, eleven species occur. On the basis of contemporary data collected and several old date (1800), a database of 1200 sites has been built, on which a synthesis of occurrence of each species has been mapped and commented. Bias and futures perspectives are discussed in the light of the needs of conservation for a better consideration of these species in local environmental policies.
