Under natural environment, the differentiation of Stemonitis axifera sporocarps has been observed on a 24 hours period. A macrophotography sequence details the development stages from early plasmodia to spore dispersion. About twenty hours were required for the completion of sporocarp maturation, including eight hours for the induction of sporangia and the columella and stalk development, 6 more hours for the pigmentation and maturation of sporocarps and another 6 hours till the spore discharge.
