Bugs and toads: what is a chong ?

The Chinese character chong describes an animal category thaï can be identified roughly as invertebrate animals. If considered through history, it appears in fact as a category much harder to define. Different aspects are shown, ranging from the Classics of Antiquity to the Materia Medica of the Ming Dynasty and to Modern times.
