A large Tovomita tree, remarkable for its spectacular fruits, has been collected several times since the 1980’s in various botanical inventories of trees in French Guiana. The first complete specimens collected in the Montagnes de la Trinité reserve allow the description of this new species, which differs from the other species of the genus by its very large flowers, and by its fruit, with a rigid thick wall bearing conical corky excrescences.
