The genus Colophospermum, described in 1949, known from its only species C. mopane from southern Africa, is congeneric with the monotypic Hardwickia described from India in 1811. The new combination H. mopane is made. The taxonomic study is accompanied by a palynological as well as a wood anatomical study.
