Hide processing: ethnoarcheological approaches
Edited by Sylvie BEYRIÈSThis special issue of Anthropozoologica presents a thematic on "The leather work. Approaches ethno-archaeological" whose scientific editor is Sylvie Beyries and an article on "The representation of motion in wall art" by Marc Azéma all both associated with a DVD. The reader is invited to surf between the pages of the "paper" edition and many movies and slideshows and DVD movies that have: - a rich iconography derived ethno-archaeological surveys in various areas where the leather work is still made the traditional way with the implementation, for all or part of the work, bone tools and / or stone. Five groups were studied, Chukchi northern Kamchatka (Eastern Siberia, Russia) Athapaskans and Salish British Columbia (Canada) and the Gamo groups and Konso of Ethiopia. - The "cartoons" created from drawings, paintings and engravings of animals carried on the walls of various caves by prehistoric artists that allow to approach the representation of movement in the wall art.
