This paper describes Chionelasmus crosnieri n.sp., from a guyot on the northern part of Norfolk Ridge, to the south of New Caledonia. This new species, within the previously monospecific genus Chionelasmus, inhabits a living octocoral, Muricides sp. indet. Comments on the distribution and habitat of the new species are provided, including a proposal for the method by which the cyprid larva of C. crosnieri gained access to the axial skeleton of the octocoral.
