Five new species of very small polydesmoid millipeds classified in the genus Sphaeroparia are described. They were collected in central Africa (Kivu and Ruwenzori) in the litter of the tropical rain forest, at high or medium altitude. A new concept for the genus Sphaeroparia, grouping all the ethiopian genera and species of the Fuhrmannodesmidae, is proposed. This genus is divided in 6 subgenera (6 former genera): Sphaeroparia (including 3 of the new species), Mecistoparia, Mabocus, Eburodesmus, Heterosphaeroparia and Physetoparia (including 2 of the new species).
