A new subspecies of Carex (Cyperaceae) from Somalia and Ethiopia

In the genus Carex a new subspecies is described, viz. C. brunnea Thunb. subsp. occidentalis Lye. C. brunnea was originally described from Japan, and the utricles and achenes of the holotypes of both subspecies are illustrated by SEM photographs.
