The Bulletin du Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle 3ème série is separated into five sections. One paper is published per fascicule (except for year 1978 where papers have been grouped into bi-monthly fascicules). During these years, there is a double numerotation:
Global numerotation for all sections:
n°1 January-February 1971 (= Zoologie 1) to n°522 November-December 1978 (= Sciences physico-chimiques 19);
Numerotation within the section Zoologie:
n°1 January-February 1971 (= fascicule 1) to n°356 November-December 1978 (= fascicule 520).
Beginning: fasc. 1, 1971 (published in 1972);
End: fasc. 356, 1978.

Each year, a supplement is published which details the works done in the laboratories and the Museum's acquisitions.
The Bulletin du Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, 3ème série – Zoologie follows the Bulletin du Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle 2ème série and becomes the Bulletin du Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle 4ème série – section A – Zoologie, Biologie et Écologie animales. It is completed by the Bulletin du Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle 3ème série, supplément.
