Riccia cavernosa Hoffm. emend. Raddi, was reported in Morocco as a hepatic of the mountains. However, this species was found for the first time in the plain of Gharb near the Mamora forest in November 2008 on a silicaceous substrate. Riccia cavernosa which is considered rare in the Mediterranean countries and very rare in Africa is described and illustrated in this study.
