Morphological and geographical study of 13 species of the genus Riccia collected in India, Indonesia, and the North and East of Australia. Description of R. coracina, a new species of South India with great black scales covering the dorsal face of the thallus. Eight plates of drawings showing the morphological characters of seven species, and two plates of the spores of six species. A short discussion on the probable arrival of the species from western lands to India and Indonesia, and from New Guinea to northern and eastern Australia.
