A new desmid species with slightly twisted cells and asymmetrical ornamentation, Cosmarium gauthierae ≤´tastn∞ & Neustupa, is described from an ephemeral pool in south-western mountains of the Republic of Macedonia. It is morphologically close to asymmetrical forms of C. dimaziforme, C. onychonema and C. pseudotaxichondrum to which it has been compared.
