The known freshwater fauna of the Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia) includes ca. 80 taxa of macro-invertebrates and 14 fish species. After a description of the main characteristics of Marquesan rivers and an overview of the methods applicable for studying the fauna in these habitats, a general key is provided in which the different groups are presented in their accepted systematics order (Oligochaetes, Gastropoda, Crustacea Decapoda, Odonata, Diptera, Fish). Within each Order, a first key leads to the identification of the main groups (mostly at family level), and another set of keys, simplified but fully illustrated, is available for certain families. More keys make it possible to identify the animals to a finer level. The book also includes a list of bibliographical references, a species list and an index.
