This book deals with legally protected plants observed in the "Département de la Sarthe" (Région Pays de la Loire, France). One hundred and three protected taxa have been observed until now, 21 being protected nationally, 81 at the Pays de la Loire level, and one (Trapa natans), through Bern Convention. A map with old (before 1980) and recent (1980-2001) data is given for each taxon, accompanied by a photograph of the plant and a short note. These cards are distributed into 10 chapters, corresponding to groups of habitats. A reminder of French and European nature protection texts, followed by a description of geographical characteristics of Sarthe precedes them. The book concludes with a commentary on the present status of these taxa and a chapter dealing with practical measures locally used for their conservation.
