Tselfatia formosa, marine Cretaceous teleostes (Pisces,Actinopterygii), and the phylogenetic relationships of the Tselfatiiformes or Bananogmiiformes

Some osteological characters of Tselfatia formosa are revised. They confirm that Tselfatia belongs to the Tselfatiiformes or Bananogmiiformes. The phylogenetic relationships of this order are studied. The Tselfatiiformes are primitive Clupeocephala. They appear apomorphic in regard to the Crossognathiformes and represent the plesiomorphic sister-group of a clade including the Otocephala (Clupeomorpha and Ostariophysi) and the Euteleostei.
