Madonna dell’Arma (Via Aurelia, San Remo, Italy): pollen analysis of the Gallo-roman house

This study presents a short local vegetation history of western Liguria, northwest Italy, based on pollen analysis of a 180-cm-long archaeological sediment profile. This study also provides a theoretical pattern of vegetation terracing in Liguria during the Gallo-Roman period. Statistical analyses were applied to determine vegetation groups and their terracing on Mediterranean belts according to the soil diversity. The pollen analysis of Madonna dell’Arma Gallo-roman house’s surroundings provides a local picture of the vegetation during the Empire period. The hypotheses on climate relate a dryness coastal zone. The profile could be integrated between the first and third century AD.
