A new species of the pantropical genus Canavalia, C. veillonii, is described from New Caledonia, where it is endemic. It is characterised by its acute to obscurely acuminate leaflets, which have rusty puberulous major veins beneath; the calyx tube not constricted behind the lip; and the hilum of the seeds which is more than half as long as the seed.
